The Old Success Inn is a delightful 17th century Fisherman's Inn, situated in the village of Sennen Cove in west Cornwall, located perfectly for a holiday.
Over the years, The Old Success has been sympathetically modernised to improve its accommodation, restaurant and other facilities. It currently has a bar (it is one of west Cornwall's most popular pubs), a restaurant, a residents' lounge, twelve bedrooms and three self-catering apartments. However, The Old Success retains its character and charm.
Lunch is served in the bar each day and, on Sundays, lunch is also available in the restaurant. Dinner is available in the bar or in the restaurant each evening. When the weather is kind, meals, with waiter service, are available outside. There is occasional live music entertainment in the bar.
In April 2008, St. Austell Brewery acquired The Old Success Inn. Since then, the new managers have overseen further modernisation, including the development of the terrace / garden bar. There are also plans for further improvements to the accommodation.
The stated aim of the plans is to retain the character and charm of The Old Success, to maintain its place at the hub of the local community and to stay fiercely loyal to the lifeboat men of Sennen Cove. However, the "Doom Bar" has gone; beers on offer now include Tribute, HSD and "Proper Job".
Diana and Geoff Jones took over as managers at the beginning of June 2010. They have lived and worked in Sennen Cove for some 14 years before taking on the Old Success. They are planning to start the quizzes again on Friday nights and bring back live music. But, most of all they want to look after the locals and make them feel at home again.
Sennen Cove is a breathtakingly beautiful location, with its clear blue sea and fine sands. It features frequently in guides as one of Britain's best beaches and many people know it as "the bay where the dolphins play". The Old Success enjoys magnificent views overlooking the beach and Whitesand Bay towards The Brisons rocks and Cape Cornwall, the only cape in England.
Sennen Cove's beach is perfect for activities such as swimming, surfing, fishing and sunbathing. The coastal footpaths to Land's End in one direction and Cape Cornwall in the other provide classic Cornish cliff views; there is something for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts of all ages.
There is an 18 hole golf course at Cape Cornwall with views unchallenged by any other course in the country. You can also organise a range of other leisure activities locally.
Sennen Cove is located approximately 10 miles southwest from Penzance. From Penzance, follow the A30 towards Land's End, turn right into Cove Road at the mini-roundabout opposite Sennen Primary School and follow the road down the hill to Sennen Cove. You will see The Old Success Inn on your left at the bottom of the hill. There is a private, off-road car park.
Whatever accommodation you need, whether it is a couple of days of bed and breakfast (B&B), a week of full board or a two-week self-catering holiday, Sennen Cove and The Old Success Inn are well worth considering.
